  • John Meunier Celebrates 60th Anniversary In 2008 (Tue, 13 May 2008 16:21:19 GMT)  John Meunier, subsidiary of Veolia Water Solutions and Technologies, will be celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2008. Little did John Meunier know, when he founded the company bearing his name in June 1948, that it would be celebrating 60 years of existence and grow to become an important part of the Veolia Water Systems and Technology family of companies. His son, Gabriel Meunier, lead John Meunier between 1974 and 1998 and introduced wastewater and drinking water technologies into the company. Initially, John Meunier catered to a local business base, interested in pumps and swimming pool equipment. Today, John Meunier is active throughout the North American continent, providing state-of-the-art drinking water, wastewater and stormwater technologies to municipal and industrial clients. "Technological innovation is the key to success - the same drive for innovation and new technologies exists today as it did 60 years ago," says Gilles Filion, Chairman of the Board of John Meunier." Over the last 60 years, John Meunier has brought many innovations to the forefront on the Canadian water treatment business and has been able to capitalize on the R&D efforts of Veolia Water Solutions and Technologies. The following is a sample of these innovative processes and technologies that John Meunier has been able to introduce in its technological offer: Escalator Bar screen: innovative perforated fine screen for solids removal in headworks of wastewater treatment plants FluidSep vortex separator: part of the complete line of Hydrovex(R) stormwater treatment equipment ACTIFLO: unique ballasted flocculation physico-chemical treatment that is a breakthrough technology in the water treatment field BIOSTYR: compact biologically aerated filtration technology for the treatment of urban wastewater Instrumentation and chemical dosing systems: complete range of products with state-of-the-art technology Automation and SCADA: complete software programming service for the control systems of drinking water and wastewater treatment plants Membrane systems: solid/liquid separation processes using membrane technologies Throughout the history of the company, John Meunier Inc. has been manufacturing and assembling its state-of-the art technology in Canada, in its 4500m² production shop, in Ville St-Laurent. 'We are proud to have been able to keep our production and manufacturing local while at the same time being able to expand our geographical presence and outreach to the whole continent," explains Gilles Filion. The importance to quality manufacturing was recognized and promoted early in the process by senior management. Future of John Meunier Inc. Still going strong after 60 years of existence, bringing innovation to the water and wastewater market is still at the heart of the strategy of John Meunier. When asked about the latest addition to the John Meunier portfolio of technologies, the President of John Meunier, Yvan Liegey, answers: "The MBBR (Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor) from Anox/Kaldnes, acquired by Veolia Water Solutions and Technologies in August 2007, is a patented fixed film technology used for the biological treatment of urban and industrial wastewater. We think that the strong know-how and experience of Anox/Kaldnes (with more than 400 references) will bring a lot of added value to the Canadian wastewater market. You' ll probably hear lot more about that technology in 2008," he adds with a smile.
  • John Meunier and BD Watertech Reach Representation Deal for Waste Water Technologies in Western Canada (Tue, 13 May 2008 16:20:06 GMT)  John Meunier subsidiary of Veolia Water Solutions and Technologies, announces that it has reached a representation deal with BD Watertech from Calgary (Alberta). Effective on February 1st 2008, John Meunier Inc. will be represented in the municipal wastewater market in Western Canada through BD Watertech. Among the wastewater technologies available at John Meunier, BD Watertech will have exclusivity on the AnoxKaldnes MBBR (Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor). "We are excited at the idea of representing the wastewater technologies of John Meunier, and an innovative technology like the AnoxKaldnes MBBR (Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor) in Western Canada and we look forward to building a strong relationship with John Meunier," states Dave Van Vliet from BD Watertech. "BD Watertech brings a strong network of municipal and industrial relationships in Western Canada. We look forward to working closely with Dave and his team in order to bring added-value technologies, like the MBBR, to western Canadian wastewater operators," confirms Marie Meunier, Regional Sales Manager for British Columbia.
  • The Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR): compact, Innovative Biological Wastewater Treatment Introduced to Canada (Tue, 13 May 2008 16:18:41 GMT)  John Meunier, subsidiary of Veolia Water Solutions and Technologies, is pleased to announce that it will be responsible for the commercialization in Canada of the Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR) technology from AnoxKaldnes. Acquired in August 2007 by Veolia Water Systems and Technologies, AnoxKaldnes is led by the internationally renowned researcher Thomas Welander. AnoxKaldnes has a strong culture of research and development and innovation driven technologies. The MBBR technology is a robust attached growth biological wastewater treatment that is less expensive than conventional biological treatment. The result of much research work, an engineered plastic media is used to promote fixed biomass. This makes for an easy-to-operate, efficient, biological wastewater treatment that does not require any recirculation of the mixed liquor suspended solids (MLSS). The MBBR technology can be used for the treatment of both carbonaceous and nitrogenous pollution, in both municipal environments (lagoons, activated sludges, etc...) or in an industrial setting (food and beverage industry, landfill leachate, etc.). "We are very excited at the idea of presenting the AnoxKaldnes MBBR technology to the Canadian wastewater market. We believe that the strong experience of AnoxKaldnes in MBBR design, its 400 worldwide references, including in cold water, and strong track record in execution, will bring a lot of value to municipal and industrial wastewater treatment plant operators throughout Canada," confirms Alain Gadbois, Vice-President, Technology of John Meunier. The main applications of the MBBR technologies are: BAS: an optimally designed combination of an MBBR stage followed by an activated sludge stage HYBASTM/IFAS: the activated sludge process and the MBBR biofilm process combined into one LagoonGuardTM: provides a well-designed supplementary MBBR after a lagoon which will polish the ammonium load and may even provide additional COD removal

  • Thermal fragmentation: a new technology for mining narrow high-grade precious metal vein ore bodies - A real technological revolution is about to transform the mining industry - at least in the exploitation of narrow high-grade precious metal vein ore bodies. The process is called "Thermal Fragmentation" - a process by which a burner, operating at very high temperatures is used to "shatter" or spall the rock in order to extract the mineralised ore. With this process, mining companies will be able not only to substantially reduce their operating costs, but also to rework formerly closed mines. What is important to know however, is that the exclusive rights for the usage of the technology belongs to the Rocmec Mining Inc.. Patents have been granted to Rocmec for Canada, the United States, Morocco and currently patent pending in 6 other countries. Being the only company in North America to employ this new technology, Rocmec's growth potential is enormous. As soon as it consolidates its activities in Canada, Rocmec intends thereafter to focus on South Africa, a country that is home to the largest and most important gold deposits in the world. click here
